140 LED lights illuminate the structure of the QEII Bridge with bands of colour and using computer programmed controls, the level of illumination changes in relation to the rise and fall of the tides. These controls are also used each day to change the bands of colour as they appear to move through the 360 metre structure, sending ‘messages’ of light between Newcastle and Gateshead.

The photographs above show how the lighting will animate the appearance of the bridge and constantly change its effect on the skyline.

The 140 LED lights are capable of generating 16.5 million different colours, so Nocturne could show over 2 billion possible colour combinations!
