Since the inception of the Tyne & Wear Metro the Art on Transport programme has provided over forty commissions for permanent and temporary artworks. It is nationally recognised for the quality of its work and the scope of opportunities which it has created for artists and its passengers. Metro stations, bus inter-changes and even
a multi-storey car park are among the sites where the work of artists has been integrated.

Janet Street-Porter recently described the transport infrastructure provided by Nexus, as, ‘Unique in terms of the visual treats it offers customers … to make your journey by bus or train just that little bit more interesting, in ways you could not have dreamt of.’
